The Big Game

by on Nov.03, 2011, under School

It was the day of the hockey championships and Dresden was lucky enough to make it to the last game for a chance to be the best team in the league. Dresden Jr.Kings had to play against the big, rough Glencoe Icebergs in the Dresden Arena. If the Kings didn’t win the game then Glencoe would win the championship trophy for the fourth time in a row.

Everybody was in the change room getting ready for the big game. Bob, our assistant captain, rushed into the change room and told the team, “I just walked by two people on the other team and they were heads taller than me. They were talking about ways to check us so we would get hurt.”

Bill, our captain, replied, “Nobody get nervous, we have practiced this before ad we will win.” After everybody was dressed, the coach walked in and said, “Everybody sit down I have something important to say”.  The whole 10 minutes the coach was talking he told us helpful plays he wanted us to use in the game. When he was done talking he added, “This team is very tall but don’t be fooled by their height.” We all panicked and we thought we were going to lose the championship game.” The whole team huddled together and said a cheer really loud, ONE, TWO, THREE GO DRESDEN!! The goalie led us out of the room and onto the ice.

When we all stepped foot on the ice we immediately glared at the Glencoe team.  We noticed that the other team were heads taller than us and they were big and scary looking.  When we were doing our warm up we couldn’t stop looking at the other team. Bill came up to us and said, “guys don’t get scared, we have practiced this.” AND THEN IT HAPPENDED. Suddenly the buzzer sounded and it was time to start the game. The referee dropped the puck in the middle of the ice and the Glencoe centre man checked Bob and he fell down on the ice. Glencoe rushed down the ice and scored on our nervous goalie.

Immediately our coach called a timeout and told us not to be scared, just do what we do in practices. We went on the ice and did what our coach told us to do and we scored a goal. Bill added to the points by scoring on a breakaway. Dresden scored another three times while only letting in one other goal. When we thought about it the other team was not very fast, they just look rough and they were very tall.

The Dresden Jr.Kings won the Peewee championship of 2011, 5-2. When they presented us with the trophy we were really excited. The first person to hold the trophy was Bill because he talked positive and he motivated the team a lot. After everybody got to hold the trophy we all skated around the ice very excited, knowing to never get scared of the Glencoe Icebergs again.
