Pollution
by alexandrav110gs on Apr.13, 2012, under School
In class we had to pick a world issue that is still going on today. I chose to do pollution as my big world issue. After we had all of our information we had to put it into a prezi and then present it to the class. In our prezi we had to include causes of the problem, what it is, how long it has been going on for, roots of the problem, the history and how to solve the issue. Here is my prezi that I created on pollution.
April Fool’s Day
by alexandrav110gs on Mar.30, 2012, under Uncategorized
April Fool’s day is coming around the corner (April 1st). It is the name given to the custom of playing practical jokes on friends. Nobody knows the origin of this day of the year. Some people say it is a celebration related to the turn of the season, but nobody knows for sure. People spend a long time planning on how they are going to trick other people. Most people have a hard time picking what tricks they are going too do. Written below is some jokes/tricks that you might want to use on April Fool’s day:
- Scrape the cream out of oreo cookies and fill them with white toothpaste
- Use a 3M Post-it notes placed underneath someones’s computer mouse – ensure that it covers the ball or the optical sensor on the bottom. When they go to use the mouse, it won’t work! On the 3M Post-it simply write April Fool
- If you have little holders for your salt and pepper, switch the salt with sugar and then watch your family’s and friend’s faces when they try their food! Just make sure they have something they eat salt with.
- Grab a bunch of alarm clocks, set them to alarm at very early times in the morning and hide them all around different places at your victims room!
- Open up all the boxes of cereal and pull the bags with the cereal in them out of the boxes. Put each bag in a wrong cereal box. When your family members go to pour their cereal they will get the wrong kind!
Here is a good list of pranks to do on April Fool’s day. Just make sure to say April Fool at the end, and watch their faces when they figure out that you were joking and it was you.
Happy April Fool’s Day!
Thermometer
by alexandrav110gs on Mar.07, 2012, under Uncategorized
In class we are studying Heat In The Environment. For a project we had to make a mini poster on glogster. We were able to pick any bolded term in the unit that we have already talked about. I chose to talk about thermometers for my poster. In my glog I talked about things like what it was, types, parts and how does it work.
Here is a link to my glog about thermometers.
If you have any interest in creating a glog go here. If you have any questions about creating a glog just write a comment and I will respond back with what to do.
Moneyball
by alexandrav110gs on Feb.29, 2012, under School
In class we had to choose a movie that had an impact on us. We had to write a post about the movie, and who the target audience was and how the movie appealed to the target audience. The post had to be 100-150 words long. When the whole class was done writing their post we had to leave a comment saying how the movie that they picked affected us. I chose to do my movie on “Moneyball”
I thought that the target audience for the movie Moneyball was ages 13 and up because there is some strong language that younger kids should no
t hear. This was a very good movie but it has to be for the right age group or they won’t understand the real meaning of the movie. This movie is also targeted to people who like biographies and drama and also for people who are interested in baseball.
The movie moneyball is about Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) who is the General Manager for the baseball team “Oakland Athletics” which is the lowest paying team in Major League Baseball. Billy hired Peter Brand (Jonah Hill) to help him trade players and try to win the World Series. Peter and Billy focused on each players statistics so they could find the people they want on their team. The Oakland Athletics went from always losing to always winning in the year 2002. The team made it to the final game of the World Series and lost to the New York Yankees. The movie is based on a true story. The Oakland Athletics never won a World Series after that.
This movie made an impact on my life because it teaches me (and the viewers) that you can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it. In the movie Moneyball Billy Beane wanted to win the World Series so he traded players and set his mind to winning. His team made it to the finals all because Billy had a goal and accomplished it. When I am trying to accomplish something I will think of this movie and Billy and how he set his mind to doing something. This is a very inspirational movie and I recommend it to people who like biographies, drama and sports.

Letter From Jacques Cartier
by alexandrav110gs on Feb.24, 2012, under Elearning, School
For Blended Learning we had to write a letter pretending we were Jacques Cartier to our family. In our letter we had to include our hopes and fears.
Dear Family,
I am so glad that I have the opportunity to talk to you again. I wanted to write to you because I want to tell you everything that has happened on my adventures so far. I also want to tell you my hopes and fears of going on an adventure that Francois I gave me.
Francois I, the king of France gave me a mission. When he was telling me I was thinking to myself “Will it be hard, what will happen if I can’t do it?” After a while he finally told me, my mission was, I had to find two main things, a shipping route to the Orient and precious metals such as gold to make France rich. I was really excited to have the opportunity to travel around the world and explore new things. At the same time I was thinking to myself, “What would happen if I can’t do what he asked me to do, is it going to be hard?”
On April 20, 1534 I left with 2 ships and 61 men. Over my journey I planted a cross on the Gaspe Peninsula. While I was there I came across land that has never been found before. I thought to myself ‘I just found land that nobody has seen before, I will be famous for this.” After a while I called that piece of land Canada meaning the small region of Quebec.
I was trying to attempt to settle in the Gaspe and other areas but unexpected things started to happen that made me scared and worried. Some things that happened while we were there was harsh weather, there wasn’t a lot of supplies for us to live on and diseases started to spread. I was scared because I thought that I wasn’t going to be able to go back home because I would get stuck in all the bad things that were happening in the Gaspe Peninsula.
I am now back with Francois I, I did not find a shipping route to the Orient or precious metals to make French rich. Instead I found a small region that is called Canada.
See You Soon,
Love,
Jacques Cartier
Oh Canada
by alexandrav110gs on Feb.24, 2012, under School
In class we had to write a slam poem. I chose to do my poem on interesting places to visit in Canada.
Before your time like 1867
Canada became more than just land
So please take my hand,
And we will see how Canada expands.
In British Columbia there are the Rockies,
And if you look hard enough you might find some jockeys,
But don’t give up yet, there is still more to explore,
Starting with Yukon where there is loads of gold,
Trust me you won’t be undersold.
Now on to Ontario where the theme is “it’s yours to discover,”
So go uncover the beautiful wonders,
If you ever visit Niagara Falls, I’m sure you’ll have a ball,
The sky screamer is the best of all.
Alberta has it all
With oil rigs,
Cash crops,
And lots of horses too.
Canada has lots of wonders, as you can see,
From 1867 to present,
So go on, take time to discover.

La Maison du Fromage
by alexandrav110gs on Jan.21, 2012, under School
In french we had to design a snack bar for our scool with a partner. It had to include imperatives, vouloir, pouvoir and devoir. We had to make a write-up talking about our menu, prices, meal deal and what we plan to do with the snack bar. We had to put our write-up in a prezi and we also had to record our voices (while saying our presentation). My partner was Hannah.
This is our presentation: la masion du fromage
